description

Nordic tattoos embrace ancient pagan mythology of Scandinavian and North-Germanic people, prior to the spread of Christianity in the region.

Representations of Norse gods and goddesses, Asatru symbols, Viking symbols (tribal demarcations specific to the Viking Age of the 8th to 11th centuries AD), as well as references to Viking culture (Viking boats, weapons, tools, armor, allusions to Kings / Lords / Serfs and the local hierarchical social structures) are all characteristic of Nordic tattoos.

People in present-day Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland, as well as parts of the UK, still have cultural and biological ties to Viking culture. Contemporary tattoos designed around this folklore, as well as trends toward neopaganism (most notably the revival of the ancient Asatru faith) demonstrate a modern desire to connect with Nordic mythology and Viking heritage.
