Borneo Tattoos

Borneo traditional tattooing comes from tribes in Indonesia and Malaysia.

These patterns and designs originated to mark physical milestones in life, as well as protect and guide the body's spirit throughout the afterlife.

Many tribes no longer exist and / or no longer practice tattooing in the region. The degradation of Borneo tattoo culture is largely attributed to religious conversions by missionaries and mass tribal displacement by local governments. Their designs live on to inspire people who may or may not be of Borneo descent.
